Our family takes a few backpacking trips a year, so I know all about going down the rabbit hole of lightweight gear. I've got a grave yard of gear that didn't work out, but some that were big time winners.

Another to add to the independent retailers is Native Summit in my hometown of Edmond, OK. https://thenativesummit.com/

Very well curated selection of outdoor gear and the owners are very knowledgable and backpackers themselves. Also hacky sack aficionados which only adds to their outdoor street cred.

This is great. Thanks for the suggesiton. One nice thing about Ultralight gear are the great independent shops — so glad you passed along this good intel!

Michael, this is a great post, and I'm glad I'm not the only one scouring GGG website on repeat. They have so many ingenious products made by real backpackers out in the field. I wanted to share that Matador has excellent travel supplies that I use in my dopp kit, and I used their products when I rafted down the Grand Canyon.
