We used to go for Easter brunch when our kids were younger. First prize in the egg hunt was a giant 2’ tall Jacques Torres chocolate bunny, which my daughter brought home one year. 6 months later, we were still eating it.
Had the same realization post-COVID as my travel changed from two nights a month at a Marriott property for business to weekend getaways with my wife. The whole experience is better when it's more than just a place to lay your head at night.
I never subscribed to the “it’s just a place to sleep” argument about hotels. I travel a bit for my work and never take advantage of the points I accrue because when I travel for vacation, I want to stay somewhere nicer. Nothing makes you appreciate a local boutique hotel more than endless government-rate Marriott or Hilton downmarket sub-brands
I have similar feelings about the Stephanie Inn on Cannon Beach in Oregon. In the sitting room downstairs, they have a great collection of photo albums dating back to the early 90s when they opened marking graduations, weddings, and weekend escapes. The albums look like a trip through the halcyon days of J. Crew. They will build you a fire on the beach at night while the sun sets over Haystack Rock. I need to get back there.
Appropriate water pressure is a generally overlooked

Not mine, but from a fellow business owner in the food & beverage industry who once said, "There's a reason they call it the hospitality business."
Thanks
Another enjoyable read, MW.
I particularly enjoyed the photos of stacked firewood--one of my favorite posts from vintage ACL.
Any chance you could post the link to that gem?
I have tried a few times to locate it in the archives, but alas...
Makes me happy you remember that story. Here it is: https://www.acontinuouslean.com/2009/11/03/firewood/
Thank you!!

Wish I lived closer to try it
