Here we go, my list of things to buy for men who are very particular about gifts! Everything here is chosen with quality and timelessness in mind. Hope this list proves helpful.
General Guidelines and Other Ideas
Outside of the typical gift list I typically do, I wanted to offer some alternative ideas. Gifts are often hard to buy for guys, so perhaps take a simpler approach for more impact. At the end of the day, most men don’t need much to be happy. A cold drink, a good chair, and a quiet place to relax will go a long way. Here are a few less-is-more / out-of-the-box ideas, plus a card from the kids could be a new and fun approach for Father’s Day this year.
Beach Day: Organize a beach picnic with food from his favorite sandwich place. Get him a great beach chair, and bring some music and cold drinks. A simple and relaxing production would go a long way.
Quiet Morning: Organize provisions: a few newspapers, bagels, and some good coffee. Take the kids to breakfast/ the park and just let the man relax.
Golf Adventure: Reach out to one of his golf buddies and get them to organize a tee time or book them a spot at a course you know he loves, and get some friends involved. Pack him off with some PB&J + bacon sandwiches and a cooler with some cold beers. Meet him when he’s done for a cocktail at the end of the round.
Long Boozy Lunch: There’s nothing quite like a long, meandering lunch with no urgency, good food, and plenty of cocktails. Again, guys don’t need much to have a great day.
Pizza and Wine: Order up a few of his favorite pies and uncork some really nice wine. Invite some friends for a low-fi hang with no fuss.
STYLE DAD
Alden Unlined Loafers — Everyone needs these. All guys want them. No one wants to spend the money. This is the equation for the perfect gift.
Campbell’s of Beauly Land Rover Jumper — This doesn’t need to be explained. Campbell’s is one of the great shops, and these wool sweaters are just fantastic. [Perennial Pick]
J. Mueser Field Jacket — Tailor and style guy Jake Mueser is hitting all the right notes with his sportswear. I saw this jacket last week in NYC and came close to buying it. Quality stuff from a great brand.
Wolf Valet Tray — A place for his watch, wallet, and other daily use items for a bedside table or a closet drawer. Wolf makes some of the nicest watch accessories around, and I personally love these things.
Sunspel Pique Polo — If you’re buying a basic gift like this beautiful cotton polo from British luxury maker Sunspel, make it a simple thing that is super nice.
J. Press OCBD — The iconic Ivy shirt with a flap pocket. Still made in the USA, this classic is always appreciated. Simple and effective.
Imogene + Willie Denim — Buying jeans from Imogene + Willie in Nashville is one of my favorite purchase experiences anywhere. These guys are so knowledgeable and take such great care of you. Plus, these made-in-USA jeans will last a really long time.
Ghurka Express II — An icon in twill of the American bag and leather goods brand. This bag will last at least one lifetime. The classic Express II will be a long-lasting reminder of your love and appreciation for him.
GOLF DAD
MacKenzie x ACL GOLF — The perfect golf bag. Made in Oregon.
Bluegrass Fairway — The maker of my favorite made-in-USA scorecard holder. Everything from Bluegrass Fairway is excellent quality.
The Old Ghosts — Give him a subscription to The Old Ghosts, the golf newsletter I publish with The Fliers Club.
Shapland Golf Bag — The most aesthetically oriented guys I know carry these bags.
Hudson Sutler Heritage Weekender — A solid golf trip travel bag with a special shoe compartment.
Titleist Wedges — Every golfer will appreciate a new set of wedges. Look at his golf bag and replicate the loft degree (e.g 56) and bounce (K Grind).
New Headcovers — There are a lot of great indie headcover makers out there. Support one of these small brands and get him a cool new look for his bag. Forewind Golf / Après Golf / Fore Ewe / Bluegrass Fairway / Jan Craig / Seamus Golf.
KITCHEN DAD
Made In Portable Grill — This is something different, and if he were buying it for himself, it might feel superfluous. That’s exactly why it would be a great gift.
Yes Society — A cool wine membership. Serious access to well-chosen and hard-to-find bottles for people who know, value, and want the best wine.
Italian Camping Cutlery Set — A small item that could pair well with a larger outdoor grill, a gift for the man who likes to cook outdoors.
More Grill Gear — Made in USA grill brush, Cone Mills apron from Artifact or potentially the best thing on this list, incredible beef from Pat LaFrieda Home Delivery. Why not grab some of the best steak sauce of all time while we are at it?
Japanese mise en place Yakumi pans — These are great for the serious at-home chef. Pair it with a great Japanese knife, and you will surely impress any man.
Electric Kettle for Travel Coffee — Pair this with a travel AeroPress, and he’s off to the races with good coffee everywhere he goes.
French Butcher’s Knives — Who doesn’t want these? I watch a lot of Jacques Pépin videos, and he uses knives like these. What could be a better endorsement? Pair with a Pépin cookbook.
Devoción Coffee Subscription — Harvest to cup in 10 days, this NYC coffee roastery is an excellent option for even the biggest coffee snob.
ADVENTURE DAD

Purdey Tweed Water Bottle — These are just incredible. 10 out of 10 if you ask me. [PICTURED]
Seiko 5 Sports Automatic Field Watch — A great watch at a great price. It would be hard to find someone who doesn’t appreciate these Seiko sports watches.
The Beach Kit — The Lowland sweatshirt I have been wearing for the past 3 months, Finisterre Atlas swim shorts, a performance cooler, the ultralight Goat Tote, and the X50 Kermit Chair.
Simms Packable Waders — Trust me, every angler would like to have these at some point, but they will never want to buy them for themselves.
Orca Plunge — These things are truly amazing. An inflatable, mobile, and easy-to-set-up structure in a non-permanent way. Good for a rental or a place you want to move seasonally. Also, you can use this to make the plunge into a hot tub, which was the detail that convinced me.
Tom Beckbe Weekender — He is going to need a good bag to go on all of these adventures.
Lost Coast Casting Lesson — Another gift for the fisherman in your life, a casting Lesson. SF-based Lost Coast Outfitters is an excellent option for advancing in the sport.
Ultralight Duffle Bag — This is a great gym bag. Get him some Ten Thousand Set Shorts (my favorite workout shorts) to go with it.
Emerger Side Bag — A US-made fly fishing bag from the Coggins fave brand.
ETC.
Ghiaia Ceramic Mug — Why do I want everything from Ghiaia?
Blue Ridge Chair Works x Tabor — All Dad really wants is a good place to sit.
LL Bean Locker Room Towel — These are the best workout towels. Get them embroidered with his initials.
Kermit Lynch Dad Hat — If Dad likes wine, then this is the hat for him.
Chapman Manufacturing Screwdriver Set — Every time I use this thing I think about how much I freaking love it. There are so many uses for this one set, it’s incredible. This is my favorite thing on this list of favorite things. [Perennial Pick]
Billykirk Leather Tray — Every guy needs one of these for the top of a dresser or to collect stuff on his nightstand.
Cape Cod Beach Chair — My favorite USA-made beach chair. Everyone knows not to mess with Dad’s chair!
Digital Chess Board — Play virtual chess on a physical board. This is probably my favorite gift on this year’s list.
French Leather Club Chairs — If there were one gift on my list that I want, it would be these lovely things.
Take care and happy Father’s Day!
I’ll throw in my unsolicited 2 cents. The J. Crew stretch knit boxers are a supremely soft boxer/boxer brief hybrid. I assume most men put little thought into underwear, but to be gifted your new favorite pair that you didn’t know existed will certainly make a big impact in a small way.
Alden Unlined loafers would definitely be a treat for this dad. I'm trying to decide between them or the C&J Boston brown pebbled loafers as my next shoe investment. The pizza and beach chair also sound really great.
