There's no better run sporting event (possibly event in general) in the country than The Masters. I've been fortunate to attend a couple of times and you're right, Michael, you wonder what you did to be afforded the opportunity to spend a day at ANGC. It's the real deal...an authentically amazing experience.
The portraits here are incredible. The gentleman holding the chairs personifies that acute excitement felt when I wake up on Thursday to watch the first round. Wonderful piece, Michael.
I had the opportunity to attend a practice round on Monday with my brother and it was truly one the best sporting experiences ever. The zero phone policy is genius and it’s amazing to see how great of a time patrons are having without being distracted. Setting up ours chairs along 16 was great as we watched the players skipped their shots across the water.
Thanks again Michael for all your tips and suggestions!
"The experience is not overwhelming or an onslaught — there's nuance and delight and it comes in flourishes." "...because in the same way that I'm not a writer, I'm not a photographer." This post proves otherwise. Thank you-
What an experience The Masters is! I like to think of it as an American treasure. I've been lucky to attend in the past too. Living in the Chicago area The Masters and the Cubs home opener means spring is finally here! Enjoy watching the tournament.
This piece brings back so many fond memories. After many many years of applying through Masters.com for lottery tickets, I finally won 2 tickets in 2019 (for the third round at the 2020 Masters).
Fast forward through Covid and re-applying, I eventually got to attend last year. It was an experience I shared with my old man that I’ll never forget.
Golfer and non-golfer alike will find it magical. Michael nailed it; everyone there seemed to have this sense of gratitude for their good fortune. It’s hard to explain how unique that feeling is but Michael comes close.
You captured the entire experience. I hope I get to go back again as I cruise into my 80th year.

I’ll have a better sense of being there after seeing your pictures. You really captured the patron experience. You are a photographer.
Thanks for the kind words. Hope I didn't come across as fishing for compliments. It's hard to do many things well.
So good. I feel like I need to start perfecting my Old man golf style now...but that would run counter to what is so great about their unstudied look.
Are you allowed to bring cameras just not phones? Or did you have permission because you were working for the tournament?

As someone completely disinterested in golf, this article really entices me to visit the Masters.
I read the other day that the Masters sells $70M in merchandise this week.
The green jacket though. Boxy? Timeless? Ready for an update? Seems like someone (paging Sid) could give it a little love.
