Consider this: I went to New York and saw some things. I could just throw these photos up on Instagram Stories and you could breeze through them with no explanation. I might get some responses, harvest some emojis, but what is any of that doing for any one? Often I think about Instagram and, while it connects me with people, I find the lack of context we get from the social network to be the most disappointing aspect. While I do despise that all posts are some sort of win, but that’s not the worst part. I hate how incomplete it all feels.
Sending out newsletters (or even the blog days) feels better to me because I can share without everything having to be “the best,” or just me being obnoxious (though I am obnoxious with this Fishers report). I like to be able to provide some context around what’s going on. I hope you like that part too.
Below are some photos from my most recent trip east. I went to Connecticut, Fishers Island, to Armonk, NY and finally to the city.
I always try and visit the J. Press shop at the Yale Club. I remember the brands shops going back from 44th Street next to Brooks Brothers and then on to Madison and then on to 44th Street at the Yale Club.
J. Press used to have a huge selection of emblematic ties with funny scenes all over them, but not there’s only a small selection. I didn’t go to Yale so I won’t be buying that sporty tie. There was also a company called Chipp which made the best versions of these playful emblematic. I don’t know what the status is of that brand, but there are still Chipp ties for sale at the Alden Shoes shop on Madison and online! The “F/ck You” tie is still perhaps the most fun.
These shirts are just right. There’s really no such thing as slim fit at J. Press, but these shirts are excellent and a good value.
