It seems a bit crazy to spend time thinking about the clothes that extremely rich people wear, but that’s what I have been doing since I saw a recent story about Jeff Bezos. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read a lot about Amazon and am very skeptical about the company. A lot of what Amazon does goes against my values around consumption, but the the tone of this FT style story actually rubbed me the wrong way. I’m not really in the habit of defending billionaires, but I just don’t think a public flogging of anyone’s personal style is necessary — regardless of how rich they are.
My feelings are mixed when it comes to ultra rich tech guys and their approach to fashion, but focusing on clothing to make you happy is something I have been preaching since the early days of ACL. It’s my belief that people should wear whatever makes them happy. Period. It seems in this regard Mr Bezos seems happier than ever. Though he does appear to be going through some sort of mid-life awakening. (I don’t know if it’s a crisis when you’re that rich.)
