I. A Few More Travel Tips
While I was away in New York I had another idea for some travel tips, but I didn’t want to make this a whole newsletter so here it is in today’s SIGNALS. These are a few things that have helped me while traveling.
Last year I went tot North Carolina and on the way back to RDU I took a toll road which ended up costing me $1.75 in tolls and $45 in fees. The rental car company charged me a $15 service fee on each toll. Needless to say I was annoyed at this so now I bring my own E-ZPass. I never turned in my NYC E-ZPass transponder and always bring it with my on my trips to the east coast. Most states now have toll transponders linked and the passes work fairly universally. Make sure to keep it in the plastic faraday bag it came with to prevent it from being scanned when not using it. I leave mine packed in my always packed travel kit so I don’t forget it.
My new iPhone only supports eSim, so it’s super easy to buy cheap international data. Oh, and this will help you stop you from losing your AirPods in the plane seat.
These Anker 3-in-1 cords are the best thing to buy and leave in your bag. I use them with this charger for my computer and everything else — which keeps my setup minimal. I also use these data blocker USBs when connecting to *public ports to help prevent being hacked.
I like to have a light packable tote bag to bring along with me. It’s great if you go to work out, to have a bit of extra carry space or for a day out and about. I like this one from Battenwear and also this one from Patagonia.
II. J. Press Boston and New Haven Stores 📚🐑 🚩
Nothing makes me think of fall more than a Shaggy Dog sweater from J. Press. The brand continues to make the “original item” in all of the perfect colors and proportions that have been loved for decades. It’s doing what Brooks Brothers should be doing. I’m excited to see a permanent shop open on Elm Street in New Haven back open and there’s a presence in Boston again — with some new Pennant Label goods.
