Welcome to the Sunday Signals, my attempt to package up all of the interesting bits from the past few weeks. But first, a small announcement.
📝 Office hours. It’s been a while since I have held an office hours Q&A — so I’ve scheduled some time on Tuesday, August 22nd at 1pm EST. Subscribers can look for the thread at that time and drop-in with any questions you may have. I have some things I want to ask all of you too. So please drop by for intel from the larger ACL community.
I. Kodak Love
I sold some camera stuff on eBay and reinvested the proceeds into a Olympus XA film camera (per the great suggestion of a reader). I’m working my way from a Yashica T4 into more sophisticated film cameras. Every time I decide to use film over a modern digital camera I reaffirm my appreciation of analog photography.
Taking photos with an actual camera versus using a phone is much more comfortable for me. A digital camera or phone makes me too anxious, too concerned that I am upsetting people. I don’t want to be that guy. I don’t generally care what people think, but photos in public are a bit unsettling for me. Interestingly, no one cares when it’s film. They just appreciate the novelty of it. It’s not going viral on the internet, it’s just more friendly.
