I. Scenes From an Italian Restaurant
Our friends Pia and Davide Baroncini took us to Mother Wolf for dinner last week. The restaurant is a reflection of chef Evan Funkeโs take on Roman cuisine and its popularity has made it one of the most coveted reservations in Los Angeles. We live in West L.A. and going to cool restaurants in Hollywood is not something we do regularly โ so this invite from Pia and Davide was a treat. Of course Davide and Pia know Evan (they seem to know everyone) so we were seated at a big round table directly across from the kitchen. Evan was not far away wearing head to-toe denim, which along with his apron, looked like his personal uniform. He spent the next 90 mins free-styling dishes and bombarding our table with things to try. We never placed any sort of order but every few minutes plates showed up with something delicious. It felt like everything on the menu was ending up in front of us. 5 appetizers, 4 different pastas, pizza, wine, multiple waiters with desserts and after dinner drinks. It was a literal feast. After not really being in restaurants for years, this experience was a welcome situation.
