Agree that Rancourt ranger mocs are a great packed shoe. They were always in my bag when I was on a trip that might involve rain or visiting an industrial site/offroad terrain but still might include a nice dinner.
And while I’ve never been much of a baseball fan, I’ve always appreciated that Fenway Park is just… there. I’ve found myself in its shadow simply running errands, and it’s a good feeling.
Good stuff as always, Michael. If you haven't already, consider checking out Ballpark by Paul Goldberger (former architecture critic at the NYT and The New Yorker). A deep and thoughtful consideration of stadium design, and how it's evolved over the last 125 years: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/213401/ballpark-by-paul-goldberger/.
Full of fun tidbits, too -- for example, if I recall correctly, one of the old Busch Stadiums even had a bar IN right field.
Did you obtain the midsole and outsole from Rancourt? I have the same moc with the standard outsole. I emailed Rancourt to ask if the model is available with the outsole shown in your picture. The rep told me he doesn't recognize the sole and can't find a record of the build. The shoes would be far more usable with a lugged outsole. Rancourt has options for different soles on the refurbishing page, but none appear to match your picture. Help!
I've been dining out on MLB documentaries for much of January. From your summary alone I think you've just made my weekend.

Looking forward to the full Patagonia story!
Big fan those terrebonne joggers, have a couple pairs that have held up well.
Also gotta show some love to "The Jake"
Go Lions 🦁
Enjoyed this post. I bought some Penn Built shorts for golf last year and they are fantastic.
You have mentioned using a Patagonia Black Hole Dopp Kit- is it the 3L version?
Yes the 3L. This size: https://www.rei.com/product/155775/patagonia-black-hole-cube-small-3-l
Really excited to watch that MLB parks vid - as the Royals try and convince Kansas City to build them a downtown stadium...
also, "dapper elder statesman" should be your new social media bio
I’m digging those Rancourts and have been looking for something more substantial than their Read Boat Shoe - which are terrific.
Is that sole more substantial than the standard ranger moc? I’m curious if those can be ordered by civilians or you’d just suggest the ranger mocs.
Yes this is a bigger outsole and a midsole. So it's more rugged than normal.

Hi Pete - we are going to make some pairs with this outsole. They tracked this down for me specifically for golf etc. I will keep you posted
I'd buy a pair with that sole.
That is great news. Thank you.
I have the Rancourts that Coggins did with them with a more rugged sole. I love those things. Off road mocs are the best!
