It’s Masters week, so it's a fitting time to introduce The Old Ghosts, a new editorial endeavor I just launched with my friends at The Fliers Club. In my little introductory letter, I described our mission with The Old Ghosts. “We want to expand the aperture around the game and set out to create something different from most of what’s out there. The Old Ghosts will focus as much on craft, style, travel, gear, and epicurean undertakings as it will on golf. We care about the traditions of the past and the small but important details of life.” Basically, we wanted to do something about golf, but also focused on other interesting stuff.
When I launched my own stand-alone site, ACL Golf, a few years ago, I relished the opportunity to talk more about my specific view on golf in a dedicated space. Over time, I realized that doing that site on my own meant I missed the collaboration aspect of telling these types of stories. That’s why I wanted to team up with The Fliers Club to create a little golf editorial world of our own and do it together.
Some things to check out at The Old Ghosts now: I spent the afternoon with Sean Crowley at this incredible vintage clothing studio in DUMBO, Brooklyn. I wrote about how great it can be when things converge in Northern Ireland. Michael Agger wrote about his year of golf and unemployment. We saved the wonderful David Coggins essay about the Masters, and there’s much more to come.
I’m still going to talk a little bit about golf here (as I have been), but The Old Ghosts is going to open a channel to tell more golf stories, which I am thrilled about. As a thank you to all of you who have followed me here, I’ve set up a discount, which you can redeem below.
Hope to see you out there.
Michael
