The Rocky Mountain Ranch
Earlier this year we went to The Ranch at Rock Creek in Montana. If you were wondering, it’s the dude ranch experience. Obviously I assumed the place would be beautiful, but I wasn’t prepared to like it as much as I did. The weekend was loosely organized around an event for our friend’s book The Believer and I went to cover it for the Robb Report. There was a fun group out there which made it a memorable Montana weekend. The Ranch at Rock Creek is on a short list of places I dream about going back to. In addition to the review in Robb Report, some personal observations are below.
The all inclusive model deployed at The Ranch at Rock Creek is legitimately game changing for a luxury property. I don’t know if I have been to a place with more incredible activities. With the exception of a few pursuits, which had small additional fees (like if you went fishing with a guide), you could do anything from horseback riding, archery, shooting and much more. The fact that all of this stuff is included with the meals and the lodging is so liberating. It really makes you want to get out and try new things. Granted it’s not inexpensive, but I have to say you really get a lot out of staying at a place like this. It’s not just a pretty view and a good room. The Ranch at Rock Creek is truly something special.
Never has there been a better and more appropriate automobile x hotel partnership than Chevy and The Ranch at Rock Creek. We can just seamlessly insert the photo below into any advertisement.
Could every hotel have a private saloon with a bowling alley? We ended up there every night and it was so much fun. Bowling has the perfect tempo for an evening with friends and drinks.
My wife and I discussed what timing could be best to be there. Her thoughts were summer with its long days and mud-free adventures would be perfect. I would like to go for the holidays. Even if it might be a bit cold I couldn’t imagine a better place to be in December.
The attention and service from the staff really elevated the experience for me. It’s rare where someone feels encouraged to ask for things at a resort, but the staff at The Ranch at Rock Creek were genuinely happy to help when you asked. The little touches and service details stood out as something special. It was on par with nice places I have staying in Japan — which is the ultimate compliment.
