Where should I buy clothes so I can generally look better? This question came up the other day and I felt marginally qualified to answer. Many of you are experts in buying clothes and know the most hyper niche brands that make highly specific things. That’s how I tend to be too. I like very specific things from very particular places and that’s how I developed
I appreciate this. I teach high school and find more and more I just want a good pair of denim and good, comfy sweaters. I pretty much exclusively shop at J Crew now because they mail those two things. From the outside I appreciate what brands are doing, but I know what works for me and the price points that I’m comfortable with. I occasionally will even venture into their factory brand for things like white t-shirts, but don’t necessarily recommend going that route.
Always on point as usual. Just WAY too many offerings out there. There's a definite need for fleece and most definitely a need for the chore cost but NO need for a fleece chore cost. Looking at you Todd.
This is a great list and somewhat validating. Have tried several of these brands because I loved the idea of them but it ended up that they're "vibe" wasn't for me. Seeing some of your classifications around what kind of style you'll get shopping there put 2&2 together as to why.
One brand that was a great starting point for me was Asket. Very straight-forward, (what seems like) high-quality clothing with just a few options so I'm not lost trying to decide. Then I can build off of that.
Also, wish I was cool enough to pull of Drakes, such good stuff.
I would consider the fit more "tailored." I could see how it comes across as very slim in the pictures. The pieces in real life just seem like high-quality, well-fitting basics to build a uniform around.
This is great - I was thinking about something similar recently and sort of admonishing myself for getting lost in the hunt for the next best thing when I could just pick a few places I know are good and only shop from there. Saves time and money in the long run. Your list is almost exactly the stores I had in mind - Sid, J Crew, Madewell - here in Texas I also like to shop from Stag for some more casual stuff.
I discovered how good Madewell mens was from their Austin store last year and now I have like seven pairs of denim/pants from there. Used to love Todd Snyder when they would send out $100 off coupons - big fan of their Champion collab shorts.

Hahahah
I didn’t realise Buck Mason shipped to the UK now. Delighted.
Nice to see Buck Mason getting some love

I like Asket — how would you say the fit is? Seems a bit slim / small / euro?

What are the Canadian versions of these stores??
That's a good question. I don't know why these don't have a presence in Canada or why there aren't alternative brands like these.
I’d guess there’s just not enough people up here.

Thank you for the list. What are your thoughts on Taylor Stitch?
What are your thoughts on a site like Huckberry? I have discovered a number of great brands (Relwen as an example), on their site.
What do you think of Maine Layer as a brand? Worth supporting?
It just never lined up for me aesthetically and maybe had too much logo action for my taste. But haven’t look closely in a while.
