Wow look how bad that website is. You know this stuff is good based on that alone! Excellent tip. Glad those glasses are working out for you. It's hard to go back from good glasses.
I recently got some Zalto glasses for when I’m drinking nice bottles (not my Sunday scaries bottle of Joel Gott) and they make any good wine taste excellent. Tons of articles on the science & psychology behind this and it’s real.
I’m psyched to try Crystal Clean Glass. That website is incredible.
The previous recommendation for the Josephine wine glasses has been a game changer. I found “The Original' Restaurant Crystal Clean” which makes the hand washing less of a pain. Their website is equally awesome; http://www.crystalcleanglass.com/
I am in for the sneakers. Do they run true to size, or large or small?
The best approach to not breaking nice wine glasses is to use the Mr. Miyagi method when washing. Make it a zen learning experience. Wait until everyone leaves, then wash and dry each one with great attention. I find the thinnest, usually oldest, flour sack towel dries the best. It should glide over the clean glass. Great satisfaction as you put each one away. I broke a half-dozen before I figured this out.
I was in line at Luby's cafeteria years ago. Little Richard walked in and got in line behind me. After lunch he went around to all the tables saying hello and leaving small religious tracts. That night an across the park neighbor had a birthday party. They had erected a massive tent with stage over the entire back yard, and we were curious what was up. Little Richard played. Fortunately they lived on a corner and we got to watch it all from the street.
Particularly liked the Ford & Spielberg anecdotes. When I was 17 I spent a weekend working at a ‘psychic fair’, helping a friend’s parents sell crystals and homemade yo-yos. There was a smug loudspeaker announcement that, “ladies and gentlemen, Olivia Newton-John is in the room!” No one saw her because she left immediately (without a yo-yo).
Enjoyed the read. Im still wearing my Vans like I did in the early 80’s, holding on to memories, but I appreciate the additional shoe link. I personally do enjoy artisanal home pour-overs, but brought down to reality with a well toasted cherry PopTart to pair, combined, they equal mediocre. Therefore I relate to mediocre, but not mediocre coffee.
Hi Michael. Thanks for the Robb Report article. I've been meaning to inquire with you on the spectrum of "custom" it refers to. How do I know where my tailoring falls on that spectrum, please (yes, I have asked my tailor, and he said they "do more hand-work than most of their competitors," but I have no idea what that really means)? Do you have a view on the optimal point along the spectrum in terms of the price-to-quality ratio? Thank you.
Just in the nick of time. I got this e-mail sitting at the gate this morning and immediately opened every link so I can enjoy them in flight. A morning well spent.
Hello Paul. Well, these Zalto glasses are super thin and have to be hand washed which means that I break them while washing / drying. Also, they are fragile so they get knocked over and broken.
FWIW, I have used Zalto glasses for many years, and I think they are pretty durable relative to the competitors (although I too have broken some while hand washing).

Excited to hear your thoughts!
Could not agree with you more on the lack of middle ground right now when it comes to food, especially in cities. Great piece on the same topic https://open.substack.com/pub/everydaydrinking/p/malcontent-in-the-middle?r=8n4t5&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post

Have you seen Ford in Shrinking on Apple +? He basically plays as if Han Solo was a therapist! It really is a great show.

Been looking for a simple canvas sneaker - no luck with a 14w Fred Flintstone foot. New Balance 608s are poppin at the local Home Depot though.

How do you manage to break so many wine glasses? I’ve had the same ones for like 10 years. Am I not drinking intensely enough? Please advise 😂

Oooooh! That makes sense. Yeah, I guess mine are basically diner coffee mugs in wine glass form that I throw in the dishwasher and forget about.
I would be terrified every time I hand washed a thin one. That’s real commitment. Cheers.
