I was in San Marino a few Sundays ago and stopped by the new location hoping to just peek through the windows. Davide was inside staging things for his Tuesday opening and invited me in to look around. I mentioned that I had learned about Ghiaia from ACL and he said “Michael was just here this morning”! Davide is just as friendly and cool as everyone says he is and the space is amazing. I’m looking forward to listening to the podcast.
Great interview! And amazing looking space. Could you post a closeup pic of the napkins? I think they are in the upper left of one of your photos but I would love to see what was written. It was hard to follow what was on them and what made him so emotional.
Wonderful inspiring piece. I took a deeper dive into Ghiaia after your recommendation before Christmas, full of passion and honesty, very infectious. I totally get Davide's take on Ralph. My wife worked for the Burstein family who partnered with RL in the early 80's to open the first store in Bond Street and I remember the opening like it was yesterday when I could feel Ralph's 'hand' on every single piece in that unique store - a true example of a vision that has managed to grow without loosing that touch that Davide articulated so well. More podcasts please Michael.
